Tegalalang Rice Terrace and Bamboo Forest Trekking

This full day trip combine some sightseeing with main interest trekking at amazing rice terrace Tegalalang, Visit at coffee plantation where you will be shown the traditional process of making coffee and also learn about the famous Luwak coffee. Have lunch overlooking the volcano and lake Batur, do a short trekking through volcanic rock, bamboo forest and also visit a very unique Balinese traditional village.

First stop of the journey will be trekking a beautiful rice terrace in Tegallalang. The emerald-green rice terraces in the river gorge north of Tegallalang village in central Bali are generally considered to offer travelers the best photo opportunity.

Heading north for another few minutes we will arrive at the coffee plantation where you will be able to sample local blends. These included the prized Kopi Luwak, or beans that have been eaten by the civet cat, not-really-digested, then pooped out, collected up, cleaned, roasted and ground for our drinking pleasure.

For those who highly curious and want to try the Luwak coffee, you will be charged IDR50,000 per cup (USD 5). It only requires one tea spoon of the finely ground beans and so for a one-time taste test.

Luwak coffee is not going to change your life, but it is a delicious and aromatic coffee. You may not believe if the coffee was made from cat poop because it smells exactly the opposite of how you would imagine.

After visiting the coffee plantation, we will drive you up to Kintamani for lunch overlooking the volcano and lake Batur. From there you have a spectacular view of lake Batur and also the view of active volcano of Mt. Batur while enjoying your lunch.

The vast rocks was formed by the cold lava of the last eruption of Mount Batur. From there you will get a closer look at Mt. Batur on your north side and Mt. Abang on the opposite side. Your guide will tell you the history of Mt. Batur and its eruption.

If you prefer to do a trekking under the shade of tree, we can also take you for a walk through the bamboo forest. This forest is the largest bamboo forest in the island where you can see different types of bamboo growing in their natural habitat. Please don't forget to bring mosquito spray as sometimes you will probably find some of them flying around inside the forest.

Final stop of this trip is visiting a unique traditional village called Penglipuran. Here we are welcome and allowed to go in to visit their traditional house compound. This village has its own unique culture and way of life. Penglipuran village is a place of interest and outstanding beauty in Bali.

Here you will have rare opportunity to explore the uniqueness of Balinese traditional compounds which is only a few still remain in the island.

Very knowledgeable and friendly guide/driver.

This was the first tour we took on our honeymoon on Bali and it really set the bar very high for all that followed. The 5-star rating doesn't do it justice, it deserves much more. If you like the nature and are interested in history and traditions of Balinese people, this is definitely the tour for you! My husband and I were delighted by all the visited locations, but we were absolutely awestruck by the Taman Ayun Temple, the Jatiluwih Rice Terrace and, of course, Tanah Lot Temple. Anyone traveling to Bali should take the time to see those places and this tour provides a perfect opportunity to do so, accompanied by a very knowledgeable and friendly guide/driver. Our driver was Ngakan Putu - if you are lucky enough to get him, you are guaranteed a great day out. He was cheerful and talkative, gave us all the information we wanted to know about Bali and Balinese culture/people and was even kind enough to stop at a vendor stand on our way back to the hotel, so that we could try Durian fruit for the first time. Definitely a tour and company for every recommendation!

Informative and friendly Driver.

4.1/5.0

This was the perfect tour that fitted in all of the sites we wanted to see into one day, with some great additional and optional experiences along the way. Stopping at a local coffee plantation was definitely a highlight! Our guide, Wayan, was so informative and friendly and even leant us some money when we ran out!! (On this note- make sure you bring plenty of money and be prepared unlike us! There are lots of great foods / coffees etc that are well worth purchasing throughout the day). My only comment would be that animal lovers should be prepared as you will see some things throughout the villages that will make you quite uncomfortable. Nothing extreme, but I did find it quite tough, albeit very eye opening.

Amazing experience! Personalised and very informative.

I am very pleased with this day tour. First of all, we had an excellent guide. He was very friendly and knowledgable, and provided us with a lot of interesting insights about Bali. This made me even more fascinated by this island. He was also very helpful in answering our questions and bringing us to shops.
Secondly, the places we visited (rice paddies, Mt Batur, coffee plantation) struck us with awe. The rice paddies were vast and verdant. It was truly a sight to behold. As for Mt Batur, it was breathtaking and we were reluctant to leave. The air was fresh and cooling. For an affordable and totally worth bill of 100,000 rp per person, we got to enjoy the buffet with the mountain and lake right behind us. Talk about dining with a view! Try the sate lilit and spring rolls!
The coffee plantation visit exceeded my expectations. It not only grew coffee beans but also a multitude of different flowers that were used in teas, such as Rosella, ginger, and lemon grass. It was remarkable. We sampled 12 different teas and their special coffee made by beans yielded from the feces of Luak. The teas were an awakening of the palate. I also got to see how the coffee beans were roasted and had a chance to grind the beans!
Lastly, the reason why I had a whale of a time in Bali was because of the locals! They were very friendly. Food was cheap and good too.
Sandi is a splendid guide. We'd be glad to have him bring us around again the next time we come back! .
